The Ramban district administration has implemented round-the-clock sanitation measures to ensure a clean and hygienic environment for pilgrims undertaking the Amarnath Yatra 2024, which is currently underway.
Mohammed Ashfaq Khanji, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat and Nodal Officer for sanitation during the yatra, said that robust arrangements have been made at lodgment centres and langar sites, including the deployment of over 1,200 washrooms and 200 sanitation workers to maintain cleanliness.
“We have 8 lodgment centres in rural areas and 4 in urban areas. Around 1,200 washrooms are operational, supported by nearly 200 sanitation staff working in shifts, under close supervision,” Khanji told ANI. “We’re also receiving strong support from the Jal Shakti Department, ensuring uninterrupted water supply for sanitation needs.”
Supervisory teams are working round the clock to monitor and manage cleanliness at key points along the pilgrimage route, with an emphasis on preventing any lapses in hygiene.
Meanwhile, the 10th batch of devotees set off from Pahalgam’s Nunwan base camp on Saturday, continuing their journey to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine of Lord Shiva in south Kashmir.
As part of the rituals, the sacred ‘Chhari Mubarak’ (holy mace) was taken from Srinagar to Pahalgam for Bhoomi Pujan, Navgrah Pujan, and flag hoisting, marking significant spiritual milestones of the annual pilgrimage.
The 38-day-long Amarnath Yatra, which began on July 3, will conclude on August 9, with thousands of devotees expected to undertake the spiritual journey amid tight security and extensive logistical support.
